Privacy Policy
In one sentence: SALATI has no servers of its own, requires no sign-up, stores no personal data and sells nothing to anyone. Everything you configure stays on your device.
1. Who is responsible
This policy describes how SALATI works. SALATI is a free application for checking prayer times, the Qibla direction, nearby mosques, the Hijri calendar and the Quran. The application contains no advertising and no in-app purchases.
SALATI is distributed in two forms: the web version, opened in a browser or installed as a web app (PWA), and the Android application downloaded from Google Play. Both behave identically as regards data: neither includes analytics or tracking, and both query the same external services to display the map and search for cities. Should any difference ever arise, this policy would say so explicitly.
For any question about this policy or about your data, write to soporte.salati@gmail.com.
2. Data we do NOT collect
SALATI has no database and no server of its own. Specifically:
- There is no sign-up, user account or password.
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number or any personal identifier.
- No advertising profiles are built and no tracking identifier is assigned to you.
- No data is sold, rented or transferred to third parties for commercial purposes.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, camera or file storage.
3. Location permission (GPS)
Location is optional: you can use the application by searching for your city manually and never grant it. When you do grant it, it is used solely and exclusively for three things:
- Calculating prayer times accurately for your position, also on your own device and without sending anything anywhere.
- Calculating the Qibla direction, which is computed on your own device and sent nowhere.
- Finding nearby mosques on the map.
Your coordinates are not stored on any server of ours, because no such server exists. They are saved on your device so we do not have to ask you every time, and they are sent to the third-party services described in section 6, which need them to return the result of the query.
You can revoke the permission at any time in your operating system settings. The application will keep working: it will ask you to pick a city manually.
4. Notifications permission
It is used only to alert you at each prayer time and, if you enable it, to play the adhan. These are local notifications: your own device schedules them from the prayer times already calculated.
There are no push notifications from a server, no promotional messages, and no way for us to send anything to your device. You can turn them off from the application settings or from your operating system.
5. Data stored on your device
The application uses local browser or device storage (localStorage and
IndexedDB) to remember your preferences: chosen location, language, light or
dark theme, alert settings and the tasbih counter. Prayer times are not stored: they are
calculated on the spot on your device, so the app works offline by design.
This information never leaves your device and disappears completely when you uninstall the application or clear the browser data.
6. Third-party services
To work without servers of its own, SALATI queries public external services. In doing so, those services unavoidably receive your IP address and, where indicated, your approximate coordinates. Each one is governed by its own privacy policy:
| Service | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Nominatim (OSM) | City search | Search text, IP |
| Overpass API | Nearby mosques | Coordinates, IP |
| OpenStreetMap tiles | Map imagery | Map area, IP |
| BigDataCloud | Your city name from GPS | Coordinates, IP |
| Quran.com | Quran text and translations | IP |
No Google Fonts. The application's typefaces are served from our own domain, not from Google's CDN. This means your IP address never reaches Google when you open the application.
SALATI also bundles third-party open source software: the Leaflet mapping library, the Leaflet.markercluster plugin and the Amiri and Cairo typefaces. None of them sends data anywhere: they run on your device. Their copyright notices and full licence texts are in LICENCIAS.txt, which also ships inside the application.
7. Usage statistics
SALATI uses no analytics tool whatsoever. Neither on the web nor in the Android application. There is no statistics provider, no measurement script, and not a single request leaves your device for this purpose.
This means we do not know how many people use the application, which country they use it from, or which sections they open. It is a deliberate trade-off: we would rather not have that information than obtain it at the cost of your data.
Since there is no analytics and no cookies of any kind, there is also no need to ask for your consent or show you any cookie banner.
8. Donations and external links
The “Buy me a coffee” and “Help Gaza” buttons are external links that open Ko-fi and PCRF in your browser. SALATI processes no payments and has no access to your banking details. Once you leave the application, those sites' privacy policies apply.
9. Children
The application is suitable for all audiences and collects no personal data, so it does not knowingly process information about minors.
10. Your rights
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability.
Since we keep no data about you, you exercise those rights directly: by revoking permissions in your operating system and uninstalling the application or clearing its data, at which point all stored information disappears irreversibly. If you still have questions, write to soporte.salati@gmail.com.
11. Security
All communication with external services uses encrypted HTTPS connections. As there are no servers of our own and no user accounts, there are no databases that could be compromised.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date in the header will be updated and the new version will be published at this same address. We recommend reviewing it from time to time.
